Know the particular piece

Check the maker’s care instructions for the exact material, finish and construction before cleaning.

Begin gently

Use an appropriate, gentle method and avoid assuming that a surface is suitable for heat, soaking or strong cleaning products.

Ask when unsure

If a material or mark is unfamiliar, ask for advice before trying a treatment that could change the finish.

The details make a difference.

General care information cannot replace instructions for a specific object. Confirm what is appropriate for your piece.
