One thread, from brief to decision.
Keep the structure small enough to use and clear enough to trust. The first pass can be simple; the context grows when the work needs it.
A useful working sequence.
- 01
Frame the question
Name the problem and the people affected. Gather the observations, constraints and assumptions that could change the answer.
- 02
Shape the plan
Identify the next useful result, the owner and the dependencies. Separate a commitment from an idea that still needs exploring.
- 03
Do the work
Keep discoveries close to the brief. When the direction changes, record what changed and why instead of silently replacing the context.
- 04
Keep the decision
State the choice, its reason and the next action. Note when uncertainty should be reviewed.
Proportion matters.
A small task needs a small brief. A consequential decision may need more evidence and a wider conversation. Use the structure to support the judgement rather than treating every field as a ceremony.
In a walkthrough, bring a recent example and ask how it would move through the product. Discuss the practical details—permissions, export, retention and required integrations—before deciding whether the approach fits.
